What Is REKT?

REKT/ rekt is slang for "wrecked," which means highly damaged or completely destroyed and ruined. Nevertheless, depending on the context, it could signify something completely different. In the crypto world, rekt is typically used to describe someone who has suffered a significant financial loss as a result of a bad trade or investment. 

Assume Jack invests more than half of his savings in XRP shortly after its price rises. A week afterward, the price of XRP plummeted to less than 20% of the prior week's worth due to regulatory issues. In this instance, Jack has been REKT.

Gaining a Deeper Understanding of REKT

The slang may also refer to an item that has lost a considerable amount of its value or a market that has declined dramatically (e.g., "this coin is rekt," or "the market is rekt"). Suppose Jack makes a significant investment in a cryptocurrency token through an ICO in another scenario. 

However, when the token was finally released into the market, it traded at a significantly lower price than Jack paid during the ICO crowd sale. In this case, one may say that now the token was rekt, which caused Jack and all bagholders to be rekt as well. 

Furthermore, the term rekt is commonly used in the online gaming community to describe a person (or team) that was beaten in an embarrassing or stupid manner. Or someone who is humiliatingly losing in a sport. However, the word's first use is likely to be found in British English, when rekt refers to someone who became too intoxicated or screwed up.
