What Is CeFi?
CeFi, which stands for centralized finance, combines some of the return benefits of DeFi with the simplicity and security of specific financial-services products. CeFi allows users to earn interest rates on savings, take loans, spend using a crypto debit card, and do other things.
CeFi stands for "centralized finance." CeFi's fundamental concept is to develop crypto investment options that combine some of the return benefits of DeFi with the simplicity of use and protection of traditional financial-services products (sometimes known as TradFi). CeFi allows users to borrow money, purchase and sell cryptocurrency, spend and earn incentives using a cryptocurrency debit card, and much more.
Diving Deep Into the Concept of CeFi
CeFi allows users to borrow money against their cryptocurrency holdings like they would use conventional assets as collateral for a bank loan. It's the inverse of lending: the interest consumers pay for taking loans generates the income users may receive by holding crypto through CeFi. CeFi loans, unlike bank loans, often require minimal or no paperwork.
Disadvantages of CeFi
Every CeFi product and provider is unique, and the user’s deposited cryptocurrency may be used in ways with varying degrees of risk. Therefore, it's critical to research how the cryptocurrency is used, how the return the user is getting is produced, and what hazards are involved.
Remember that crypto deposits are not now qualified for the government-backed policy that protects traditional bank accounts.
Some CeFi providers may even temporarily freeze the user’s principal.
Stablecoins are not all made equal. For example, USDC is built on open-source code that anybody can examine. Dollar-denominated assets support USDC in segregated accounts with US-regulated financial institutions that are at least equal in fair market value to the USDC in circulation.
