What Is Long?

Long is a trade that happens when you buy a cryptocurrency with the anticipation of selling it at a profit later. Also known as long positions, they are taken with the expectation of rising prices. The motivation to earn a profit is what induces traders to book trades. 

The opposite of a long position is a short position. In these, buyers believe that an asset's price will fall and try to use strategies to gain an advantage from the falling prices. Unfortunately, most original bitcoin owners were in long positions as they bought the digital asset in its infancy and forgot about it. 

Cryptocurrency traders quickly adopt long and short positions as the market remains volatile. In addition, many traders have booked trades on cryptocurrencies without owning the digital asset directly. As a result, long positions are more common compared to the contrasting short position. 

Long has been a popular position in cryptocurrency as the prices have remained upwards trending for some years. Whenever indicators show rising prices, traders buy their chosen crypto from an exchange.
