What is the concept behind trading platforms?
Trading platforms are where traders can buy and sell assets. The platform's role is to provide information and news about these assets, such as the current price and the number of buy and sell orders for those assets. Traditional trading platforms allow traders to link their bank accounts to fund deposits and make withdrawals for trading purposes, while cryptocurrency trading platforms feature built-in digital wallets for secure deposits and withdrawals.
How cryptocurrency trading platforms work
Similar to traditional platforms, cryptocurrency trading platforms enable users to make deposits and withdrawals and to buy and sell assets, the platform provides the necessary infrastructure and security to facilitate these transactions. However, these platforms are distinguished by higher levels of security than those offered by traditional financial institutions. The platform manages buy and sell orders through a digital order book that is automatically updated after each trade. It also acts as an intermediary to execute transactions between buyers and sellers, determining exchange rates and spreads between currencies in real time, known as trading pairs, such as Bitcoin/USD or Ethereum/EUR. All of this is done in exchange for fees that the platforms collect on transactions to cover their operating costs.
Types of cryptocurrency trading platforms
- Centralized exchanges (CEXs): cryptocurrency trading platforms managed by a broker
- Decentralized Exchanges (DEXs): cryptocurrency trading platforms that operate entirely on the blockchain, where financial transactions are executed via smart contracts.
- Hybrid Exchanges: trading platforms that operate in a hybrid manner and combine features of the two previous types.
