Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP)
Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP)
What Is Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP)?
Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) specify Ethereum platform standards such as core protocol definitions, client APIs, and contract standards. Every Ethereum community member can propose these to impose change, which includes client APIs, fundamental protocol standards, code updates, and contract standards.
Types of Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP)
EIPs are classified into several categories;
The Standard Track: These are modifications that affect all or most of the Ethereum implementations, including network protocol changes.
Core: These changes necessitate a consensus fork. They frequently contain conversations about non-core development modifications.
Networking: Improvements to network protocol standards such as devp2p (EIP8) and the Ethereum Subprotocol are included in this category.
Interface: Developments in client standards and specifications, including API/RPC standards and specifications, are included in this category.
ERC: Application-level standards and conventions, such as name registries and token standards.
Meta: These procedures modify requests in the same way that Standard Track EIPs do, except they apply to portions besides the Ethereum protocol.
Informational: This document contains design principles for Ethereum. Users and implementers should disregard informational EIPs since they may not always express an Ethereum community recommendation.
Processes Involved in EIP Submission
Once an EIP is submitted, a variety of further stages are involved in determining whether to include the changes. These are some descriptions:
Draft: An EIP that is being actively considered.
Last Call: An EIP that has received preliminary consideration and is now ready for review.
Final (Non-core): An EIP that has been in the last call for at least two weeks and has addressed all technical concerns.
Final (Core): An EIP that Core developers have approved or plan to implement in a future hard fork.
Deferred: An EIP that will not be implemented immediately but is being studied for later implementation.
