What Is a Cold Wallet?

When not in use, cold wallets are cryptocurrency wallets that are not connected to the internet or other untrusted networks. This process is done to give another degree of security to the more common hot wallets, which are software wallets saved on a user's local computer or accessible from a service provider's servers via a website interface.

Individual cryptocurrency users utilize cold wallets to protect their cryptocurrency holdings from threats such as hacking, phishing, and other vectors of attack, which can result in permanent coin loss. Different Forms of Cold Wallets

Cold wallets come in a variety of forms, the most common of which is the paper and hardware wallets. A paper wallet is precisely a piece of paper containing the wallet's public address and private key printed on it. 

The public address is then used to receive cryptocurrency, while the private key is used to access and send cash. In addition, paper wallets frequently include QR codes that can be scanned with a smartphone for convenience.
