Anti-Fragile
Anti-Fragile
What is the term "anti-fragile"?
"Anti-fragile" is a term used to describe something that not only withstands stress, chaos, and volatility, but actually improves and grows stronger as a result of these conditions, emerging even stronger.
The concept of "anti-fragile"
The term "anti-fragile" was introduced by statistician Nassim Taleb in a book of the same title. The term was coined to distinguish itself from, and even surpass, resilience or robustness. While some fragile systems collapse under pressure, and resilient systems withstand pressure without improving, anti-fragile systems are those that benefit, improve, and grow stronger when exposed to shocks, volatility, randomness, and chaos. This idea suggests that certain systems and entities do not merely endure volatility and chaos but are fundamentally refined by them, becoming stronger than before.
What constitutes the term "anti-fragile"
Systems and objects can be classified and described as anti-fragile based on several characteristics, such as their ability to evolve and improve under pressure, to withstand damage and recover under unusual circumstances, to adapt and evolve in response to these conditions, and to exhibit unexpected advantages after navigating these circumstances and challenges.
