Supply Chain

What Is Supply Chain?

A supply chain is a simple sequence of steps that a service, product, or commodity goes through while getting to its final customer. These steps change according to the type of production or service. The supply chain consists of every step, from sourcing the raw materials to the preparation and manufacturing in factories and other setups.

After a product is finished, the supply chain carries with the distribution and sale of the products. Distribution can be local, national, or international, but every endpoint where a product will go is included in the supply chain. The supply chain also consists of any third-party companies that get the product to resell it. These third-party companies are known as distributors.

A supply chain is a detailed plan of how any service, product, or commodity is made from scratch and tracks to its final destination in a customer’s home. The supply chain’s simplicity or complexity will depend on the product, and it can be as simple as three steps. However, with globalization, supply chains can have hundreds of stages, making tracking a product's development hard.

Supply Chain and Blockchain Technology

Since tracking a supply chain can be time-consuming and tedious. Blockchain technology and cryptocurrency are showing potential. Big players in the computer industry are experimenting with blockchain technology to design a smooth supply chain for different businesses and industries.

The most essential thing blockchain offers to supply chain management is safety. Distributed ledgers are unchangeable, which means that information recorded in them is unalterable. This proves helpful when recording transactions and storing information about sales and purchases.

Cryptocurrency tokens can also help boost the efficiency of delivery and tracking, a crucial feature of a supply chain. Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are a perfect tool for creating tracking labels, which can be printed and attached to the goods that are sent out for delivery. As each NFT is absolutely unique, tagged items become highly traceable, and losses through the supply chain should be reduced.

Blockchain technology is extremely useful for optimizing supply chains. Nowadays, with huge international productions, supply chain management has become an increasingly lengthy process. Blockchains and crypto tokens can enhance the productivity and security of supply chains to make them more efficient.
