Infinite Approval
Infinite Approval
What is Infinite Approval?
Infinite Approval is the process of granting a smart contract permission to access an unlimited amount of your digital currencies in your wallet.
Definition of Infinite Approval
Infinite Approval is defined as a programmatic authorization process within a smart contract on the blockchain, where unlimited access is granted to the crypto assets in the wallet linked to the smart contract, giving it full authority to spend these assets without the need for any additional approvals in the future. This practice is typically used in decentralized finance (DeFi) applications to increase the speed of financial transactions and fully automate their processes.
How does Infinite Approval work?
Infinite Approval works by linking a wallet to a decentralized application. Once the wallet is connected, the platform requests access permission to your cryptocurrencies before initiating any transactions on the application. This grants the smart contract permission to use your cryptocurrencies. The smart contract is signed to allow unrestricted use of the balance, provided that the specific cryptocurrency or token to be accessed is specified if the wallet contains more than one cryptocurrency or token. The access permission is then stored on the blockchain, allowing the decentralized app to automatically use your crypto assets. The access permission remains active until it is revoked by the authorized user or the permissions are modified.
Risks of Infinite Approvals
While the process of granting unlimited permissions may provide a seamless and efficient way to manage operations on decentralized applications, it carries the risk of losing your crypto assets if the platform is compromised or if automated actions result in the full use of your crypto assets. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you review your permissions and access authorizations for smart contracts, as well as the number of assets permitted for use.
Related term: Decentralized Applications (DApps) are applications that run on a blockchain or peer-to-peer network and use smart contracts in their transactions.
