What is Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)? 

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is an autonomous federal government supervisory agency. It is responsible for protecting both individuals and businesses against market manipulation.

In addition, investors can access quarterly and annual financial statements from all public and regulated companies on the SEC's online database called EDGAR (Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval system).
