Market

A market is any location or arena, online or offline, where commercial transactions occur.

What Is a Market?

A market is any location or arena, either online or offline, where commercial transactions take place. A market is basically a gathering place for buyers and sellers. For example, buyers and dealers of digital assets would be involved in the case of cryptocurrencies. Markets determine the price of a coin or asset.

How Does a Market Work?

The more buyers and sellers there are, the more liquid a market is. The same can be said of a perfectly competitive market. Elevated levels of liquidity and transactions are important aspects of perfect competition.

Supply and demand determine the price. Buyers establish demand, while sellers determine supply. The capacity to charge a discount or a premium is limited in a perfectly competitive market. Other factors can upset the balance and supply and demand. This would include, among other things, technical innovation and regulation.

Examples of Liquid Markets

The FX market is currently the most liquid in the world. On the other hand, the bitcoin market is thought to be highly volatile. Bitcoin, the crypto market's first and most volatile currency, has seen numerous bouts of volatility.
