What is Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU)?
The Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU) is an emergency insurance fund started in 2018 by Binance to protect its users' funds. Binance pledged a certain percentage of its trading income to support the funds granted into a size large enough to protect its users.
On January 29, 2022, the Secure Asset Fund was valued at US$1 billion based on its opening price. The value of the fund will change depending on the market sentiments. The SAFU fund wallets include BNB, BUSD, and BTC.
How the Fund Started
During unscheduled maintenance, the Binance CEO tweeted to users stating:
“Funds are safe.”
Subsequently, the phrase "Funds are safe" was a common phrase for assuring users that their funds were safe.
In 2018, a YouTube content creator uploaded a video on YouTube called “Funds Are Safu.” The word quickly spread and became viral. The community started using the phrase "Funds are SAFU” to show that funds are safe.
