Race Attack

What Is a Race Attack?

A racing attack occurs when two transactions involving the same funds are generated at the same time with the goal of spending those funds twice. A race attack is a specific type of double-spend attempt. It necessitates that the recipient accepts the payment for unconfirmed transactions. The attacker sends an unconfirmed transaction to the victim.

Simultaneously, they broadcast a conflicting transaction to the network. Because the victim witnessed their own transaction first, they assume they will be compensated. Nevertheless, because the rest of the network caught the double-spend first, the victim is unlikely to receive the money. Whenever the attacker has a straight connection to the victim's node and transfers the conflicting transaction straight to the miners, such an attack becomes substantially simpler to execute.
