What Is a Binance Smart Chain?

Binance Smart Chain (BSC) is a blockchain that performs concurrently with the Binance Chain. However, unlike Binance Chain, BSC is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine and enables smart contracts (EVM). This design aimed to maintain Binance Chain's high throughput while introducing smart contracts into its ecosystem.

In effect, both blockchains work in tandem. It is essential to note that BSC is not a layer two or off-chain scaling solution. It is an autonomous blockchain that could continue to operate even if Binance Chain went offline. The designs of both chains are very similar. Because BSC is EVM-compatible, it began with support for Ethereum's vast ecosystem of tools and DApps. 

This, in principle, makes it simple for developers to migrate their projects from Ethereum. Working Mechanism of a Binance Smart Chain

Binance Smart Chain utilizes a Proof-of-Stake consensus technique to reach 3-second block timings. In addition, it operates a technique known as Proof of Staked Authority (or PoSA), in which participants stake BNB to become validators. They will get transaction fees from the transactions included in the proposed block if it is valid. 

It is worth noting that, unlike so many protocols, there is no block subsidy of the newly coined BNB because BNB is not inflationary. On the flip side, the quantity of BNB reduces with time as the Binance team burns coins regularly.

Binance Smart Chain was envisioned as a separate but complementary system to Binance Chain. Dual-chain architecture is implemented to allow users to transfer assets from one blockchain to another seamlessly. As a result, Binance Chain can provide fast trading while also allowing for the development of sophisticated decentralized apps. 

Consumers are exposed to a huge ecosystem that may cater to a wide range of use cases as a result of this interoperability. Binance Chain's BEP-2 and BEP-8 tokens can be exchanged for BEP-20 tokens, the new standard established for Binance Smart Chain.
