What Is a Full Node?
Full Node is a computer that perfectly implements all the rules of an underlying blockchain network and validates all transactions and blocks on a blockchain. It is a network-connected program that can verify messages, transactions, and blocks and runs an official bitcoin client.
Full nodes might or might not maintain an up-to-date and synchronized version of the blockchain. For example, a node that has successfully verified the chain up to a particular point can function as a full node while retaining only metadata about validated blocks, eliminating the need for a complete copy of the blockchain.
Background of Full Nodes
When Bitcoin initially launched, everyone who ran the client application became a full node. As a result, not only did the Bitcoin Core program validate data, but each client was also a Bitcoin miner, earning hundreds of BTC each day simply by keeping the software operating.
We've all seen how mining evolved with GPUs and ASICs and how mining using a conventional CPU-run application became unfeasible. As a result, the initial concept of a Bitcoin full node that could also mine money was quickly revised to the more current meaning: a node that can validate messages, transactions, and blocks, either with or without a fully synced version of the blockchain in it.
