What Is Source Code? 

Source code is a compilation of computer code that outlines how a program or software will work. It does this based on a list of instructions and statements. In short, source code is the fundamental core of software at the moment it is written.

A source code is a set of commands written in different computer programming languages, like  Java, JavaScript, C, Python, PHP, Go, Rusty, Solidity, and Haskell. All these programming languages write down a set of instructions that computers follow to perform specific actions to produce specific outputs.

After being written, the source code is usually “translated” or compiled into the machine language that computers understand and execute. In some cases, the source code is run immediately without compilation. This is possible in computer programs that have interpreters in them.

During computer software development, the source code stage is the first phase where programmers can read, comment, and make edits before the program is finished and ready for execution by a computer machine. In addition, source code libraries help make it easier for software engineers, computer scientists, and programmers as they can include their comments in the lines of code. 

Importance of having Source Code

The objective of having your source code is to edit it whenever you need to make changes. Having the source code of a program ensures the maximum protection possible for a product. It is also the only way to guarantee that you get all the latest updates and security patches. 

Having access to the source code is also an essential safety factor when you want to transfer ownership or license to a new owner or if you want to make a backup. The source code is the core of an app or website. Without it, users depend on the development firm that designed the app or website.
