Post mine
What Is a Post mine?
Post-mine is a process of mining cryptocurrency tokens after the mainnet launch. This is often done to distribute tokens to founders, team members, or early investors.
Post-mine can also refer to mining by the developers after a hard fork. When a new blockchain project launches, a pre-mine of tokens typically goes to the development team, founders, and early investors. Once the mainnet launches, miners begin validating blocks and are rewarded with tokens for their work. However, in some cases, the developers will keep mining for some time after the mainnet launch. This is what's known as post-mine.
In this case, the developers would mine on the new blockchain while users are still on the old blockchain. This would give the developers a head start in getting rewards on the new blockchain. Post-mine can be seen as a way to centralize power among the development team and early investors. It is also considered a way to distribute tokens unfairly.
Critics of post-mine argue that it goes against the decentralization principles of blockchain. They also say that it gives developers and early investors too much power. Supporters of post-mine argue that it's a necessary evil to get projects off the ground. They also say that post-mine can be done fairly and transparently.
Examples of Post Mine in Cryptocurrency:
Ethereum did a post-mine of 8 million ETH after their hard fork. This was done to distribute the tokens to the developers, founders, and early investors.
