An Initial Exchange Offering (IEO) is a process undertaken by startups in the cryptocurrency space in which they list their cryptocurrency projects or tokens on an exchange platform to sell them to investors, rather than selling them directly to investors.

How does an Initial Exchange Offering (IEO) work?

Startups launch a new cryptocurrency project after determining the supply of that currency and the percentage of tokens to be offered. A whitepaper for the project is then published, followed by an agreement with a cryptocurrency trading platform to host the offering. The platform conducts due diligence and reviews the project, after which the coin's value is determined based on a set of factors, including the availability of liquidity on the platform. The coin is then listed for trading on the platform, and the funds raised are transferred to the company issuing the cryptocurrency or token.

Startups issuing digital currencies gain access to highly liquid platforms, which handle the necessary marketing efforts prior to the offering.
