Asynchronous
Asynchronous
What does asynchronous mean?
Asynchronous is a term used to describe situations where things do not occur simultaneously or exist at the same time to work together, it is the opposite of the concept of synchronous.
The concept of asynchrony
The concept of asynchrony encompasses many scenarios and phenomena that can be classified under this description, but in general, the term "asynchronous" describes the relationship between two or more events that interact within the same system but do not occur at predetermined time intervals, and each does not necessarily depend on the other to function. They are uncoordinated, meaning they may or may not occur simultaneously, as each has its own schedule.
An example of asynchronous behavior
One simple example of asynchronous software is the firmware in a printer. When the printer sends a low-ink alert to the user, it continues printing. The printer does not stop working to issue the alert and then resume printing. The part of the program that issues the alert does not depend on the part that controls printing. They can occur simultaneously because they operate independently of each other.
Related term: "synchronous" refers to a system that occurs, exists, or operates at exactly the same time or at exactly the same speed. The term is derived from the Greek words syn (together) and chronos (time).
