What is blockchain?

Blockchain is a decentralized digital ledger that securely records information across a network of computers without relying on an intermediary, using encryption and consensus mechanisms to verify transactions and store them permanently and independently.

Definition of blockchain

Blockchain is defined as an immutable digital ledger used to conduct secure transactions over a peer-to-peer network, where data is recorded and stored in a decentralized manner, eliminating the need for third parties such as banks or government agencies. Each transaction is recorded in a block on the blockchain. All blocks are encrypted for security and privacy and are linked to the previous block in the chain, creating a chronological sequence based on cryptographic operations. This means that data stored on the blockchain cannot be deleted or modified without the consent of the network (network consensus).

How does blockchain technology work?

To understand blockchain technology, it is important to follow the transaction process as follows: when a transaction is initiated, whether by sending funds or activating smart contracts, it passes through a network of computers known as nodes to be verified. Once the verification process is complete and no issues are found, a block is created containing a group of transactions, including the one we mentioned. This block is then added to the chain according to the network's consensus mechanisms and is encoded with a specific code called a hash. Once the network records the transaction, it becomes permanent, as each node updates its ledger, ensuring that everyone has a consistent record of the newly added block.
