Mainnet

What Is a Mainnet?

A mainnet is a self-contained blockchain network that includes its own technology and protocol. In contrast to a testnet or projects that run on top of other prominent networks such as Ethereum, it is a live blockchain with its cryptocurrency or tokens in use.

Programmers use Testnet to diagnose and test new blockchain functionalities. So, the primary distinction between testnets and mainnets is that the testnets are working on blockchain projects, whereas the mainnets are fully developed blockchains.

Understanding the Mainnet Stage

Before the mainnet stage, a few critical phases may occur. These could involve a token sale, which provides financing for a product's development and testing of features. When this phase is completed successfully, the mainnet stage is typically installed.

This would indicate that the blockchain is completely operational. Various blockchain firms have chosen to use their own coins that are linked to the Ethereum network. These were ERC-20 tokens, which are only meant to be used on the Ethereum platform.

The mainnet will be launched following the completion of the ICO. This is usually represented by a native token instead of an ERC-20 token. The following stage is referred to as the mainnet swap.

This entails exchanging the ERC-20 tokens for the new currency on the blockchain. The new coins are often eliminated once the mainnet transfer is done. This is done to ensure that only new coins are used, not old ones.

Examples of Mainnet Projects

Radix, an outgrowth of the DeFi market, has one of the released mainnets. Radix debuted its betanet in April 2021, powered by the Cerberus consensus algorithm. In addition, Radix will deploy its mainnet Olympia in July 2021. The Olympia is made up of several components that rely on its fundamental technology, the Cerberus consensus algorithm. All those components involve those that have already been launched, as well as those that will be added gradually.
