Replicated Ledger

What Is a Replicated Ledger?

A replicated ledger is a clone of a distributed ledger inside a network that is disseminated to all bitcoin network participants. Ledgers in this system are classified as master and slave copies. Slave ledgers are simple replications of the master copy, whereas master ledgers hold authoritative versions of blockchain information.

The Idea Behind the Concept of a Replicated Ledger

The replicated ledger is intended to alleviate the dangers associated with sharing just a single copy of the blockchain ledger with all network participants. Because the original blockchain is duplicated multiple times, replicated ledgers do not contain a single point of failure.

Furthermore, if a user adds new transactions to their own ledgers, the updates are broadcast all throughout the network to everyone. In this type of system, no single authority can seize control of the network via the ledger since all participants have a legitimate copy of it, along with any further updates they make to it.

The data within replicated ledgers comprises the same information that was contained in the original ledger's blocks. The data contained within them is also unchangeable. A consensus protocol is also used to supplement the system. The goal of a consensus process like this is to make sure that every copy of the blockchain is comparable to the others. Changes to previously cloned ledgers will be refused.
